First Presbyterian Church of Fort Worth presents Milikin University Choir with Texas Boys Choir
First Presbyterian Church of Fort Worth
1000 Penn St.
Fort Worth, TX

The Millikin Choir, the flagship of the Millikin University choral fleet, will return to First Presbyterian Church for a concert on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at 7pm. This free event kicks off the 2013 season of the FPC concert series.  The choir features 55 upper-class students from a variety of majors. Membership in the choir places high demands on students who travel extensively throughout the United States representing the university in various settings. The choir has toured to Ireland, Scotland, England, China, Taiwan, Haiti, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic. In recent years, the choir has been invited to perform for two national and three divisional conferences of the American Choral Director’s Association (ACDA). Their performances have garnered new attention of their approach to varied style and unique programming. The choir has five recordings on Millikin's First Step Records label. Dr. Brad Holmes has been Director of Choir Programs at Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois since 1991. During this time, Dr. Holmes has overseen the growth of the choral program to five traditional choirs and a variety of smaller vocal ensembles involving more than 300 students and five conductors. The Texas Boys Choir will also be featured in a special guest appearance at this event. Lauded as “the best boys choir in the world” by composer Igor Stravinsky, the Texas Boys Choir was founded in 1946 by George Bragg to provide any boy, regardless of socio-economic or ethnic background, a structured environment in which to learn the fundamentals of world-class vocal performance. Based in Fort Worth, the Texas Boys Choir performs locally, nationally and internationally, led by acclaimed director S. Bryan Priddy who has over 30 years of experience as a school and church music educator. For information: (817) 335-1231 or fpcfw.org
