WRR Announcer Profile: Chris Tucker

Many WRR listeners may not know that the station has an award-winning composer on the air Saturday and Sunday evenings.  In 2003, Chris Tucker was awarded first prize in the Claude T. Smith Memorial Band Composition Contest for his piece Twilight in the Wilderness.   There was of course a handsome cash prize, but Chris was most excited that the renowned conductor and composer Frank Ticheli conducted the work at the Missouri Music Educator’s Association Conference.   Prizes and accolades continue to come his way.

Chris received his bachelor of music from the University  of North Texas in Denton, and went on to accomplish a Masters at UT in Austin.  His distinguished professors included Dan Welcher, Dr. Donald Grantham and Dr. Martin Mailman.  Chris is also an accomplished clarinettist and an active music teacher when he’s not getting things ready for his shows at WRR.

Since Chris has become part of the WRR staff, his knowledge of music and winning personality have made his shows a favorite destination for weekend music fans.  Listen for him starting at 4:00 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.  He’s your host for Main Event Saturday evenings at 8, a great overview of the latest classical music CD releases.
